Brooklyn "The Concoction" RBT, Charleston Beer Book Event, Hominy Grill Beer Dinner & More!

Hello!  We hope everyone had a great weekend!

We are chock full of awesome beer news this week!  Read on for all the latest beer happenings from The Beer Exchange:

Brooklyn Brewmaster’s Reserve "The Concoction" Rare Beer Tuesday (9/20)
For our weekly "Rare Beer Tuesday" growler feature at 5pm, we are fortunate to have a keg of the ultra limited, next installation in the Brooklyn Brewmaster’s Reserve series.  This one is called "The Concoction" (aka "The Tonic").  The unique, draft only beers in this series are always pushing new boundaries and this one really takes it to the next level- so much so that this has been one of Brooklyn’s most controversial beers ever!  We love it and think you might too, especially if you are a fan of Scotch and interesting cocktails… Here are the details straight from the man who created it:

"We spend a lot of time with our pals in the cocktail world, and they are constantly putting new flavor combinations in front of us. One of my favorites is a Scotch-based cocktail called The Penicillin. Invented by bartender Sam Ross at Sasha Petraske’s famous NYC cocktail bar Milk & Honey, the Pencillin is an instant classic. It combines peaty Scotch, ginger-infused honey, and lemon juice. It’s an improbable blend, but it’s delicious, and it’s also the inspiration for our next Brewmaster’s Reserve beer, The Tonic. The government wouldn’t let us call the beer "Penicillin", we’re afraid. But friends, between you and us, this brand new Tonic will cure many of your ills. Now take your Tonic and text us tomorrow."

6.8% ABV, made with: Dried Lemon Peel, Minced ginger, NYS Wildflower Honey, Organic Lemon Juice from Italy (Sicily).

Book Release Party and Free Tasting with Author Timmons Pettigrew (9/22)
The big buzz on the local beer scene is all about the new book Charleston Beer: A High Gravity History of Lowcountry Brewing.  Exploring the amazing history of beer in the Lowcountry, from the first brewery in 1732 through Prohibition and the modern craft beer explosion, author Timmons Pettigrew brings the past to life and explores the present as only a true beer connoisseur and exquisite writer could.  The Charleston Beer Exchange is thrilled to be a first stop on Pettigrew’s book tour!  From 5 to 7pm on Thursday, we’ll be hosting the author for a meet and greet/book signing event.  Copies of the book will, of course, be available for purchase on site.  And to help celebrate this extra special evening, we’ll be offering a complimentary tasting/exclusive world debut of an amazing Double IPA collaboration brew from Westbrook Brewing and The Charleston Beer Exchange!  Affectionately called "Citrus Ninja Exchange", this 9% ABV Double IPA is loaded with massive hop character and delightful citrus notes.  It is sure to tantalize!  Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to taste this beer before anyone else ever!

Local Breweries "Not Just for Vegetarians" Beer Dinner at Hominy Grill (10/2)
Sunday October 2nd at 7pm we’ll be presenting our second beer dinner with our friends at the highly acclaimed and newly renovated Hominy Grill!  This dinner will showcase all four Charleston breweries: Palmetto, COAST, Westbrook and Holy City with a special emphasis on some of their most unique, seasonal offerings.  Brewers/owners from each will be on hand to discuss their beers and share the evening with attendees.  We’ve also decided to switch things up even more by doing a completely vegetarian menu!  We want to stress that this is not exclusively for vegetarians, it is for everyone that likes great food!  Chef Robert Stehling has put together six delicious courses and we’ve paired two beers per course from the four breweries for what will be a truly remarkable evening!  For complete menu information/details, see our website here.  Please contact Hominy Grill at (843) 937-0930 to make reservations – this one is sure to sell out fast, so call now to save your seats!
